A US gallon and an Imperial gallon are different sizes. The final two reference rows represent 1 US gallon and 1 Imperial gallon; values are shown in the mL column.

Unit definitions

1 US liquid gallon is 3.785411784 L; 1 Imperial gallon is 4.54609 L. A US fluid ounce measures volume and is not an ounce by weight. A US customary cup is 8 US fluid ounces, about 236.588 mL.

How to use this volume chart

Choose the source unit first

In the custom converter, select the unit printed on your container, recipe, or reference. The tool converts the entered amount to millilitres internally, then displays the equivalent in each listed unit.

Read rounded values as estimates

The common-quantity table is a quick reference, not a precision lab table. Its US and Imperial gallon rows are separate because those gallons have different volumes. Use the dedicated converter when you need a specific directional conversion.

Understand bottle equivalents

The bottle column compares each amount with a 500 mL reference bottle. It is a volume comparison only; actual bottles vary in size and this is not a recommendation for how much water to drink.

When accuracy matters

Follow the unit and precision specified by the source. Kitchen “cups” may refer to different sizes, and ounces by weight are different from fluid ounces by volume.

Rounding and sources

The table rounds values for readability. Exact results depend on the conversion factors used before display rounding.
